Simple tatted jewelry

Just as I was preparing to take photos for etsy listings tuesday evening I unexpectedly ended up with some outside paying work to do so I still have not done my shop listings... but I was able to work on some simple bracelets and earrings for my daughters!

First tatting purchase

I purchased my first tatted item from someone else... I had been looking at it for quite some time and finally bought it on christmas day!

Uh-Oh. Aunt Teresa was running into some trouble. I posted a link from Handy Hands on her Facebook to help her remember the stitches!
Last night I went visiting relatives. I taught Aunt Teresa the basics of needle tatting! I left her with thread and beginner instructions....

Vintage/Antique books with Tatting

Absolutely hilarious!!! I was reading a section in one of the books about "how to be a good wife".... Ive spent days online looking for free public domain tatting patterns. I came across quite a few sites/vendors looking to get paid to provide them. Here is one that I saw... seller was listing tatted cap pattern c1910. It is c1915 and its in this book!

Marines Boot Camp

Brandi graduated from the Marines boot camp @ Parris Island SC, went to combat training in NC and is currently @ her MOS school for Aviation Admin in Mississippi. I was tatting the final cross on Family day (the day before boot camp graduation)! While Brandi was @ boot camp I tatted two different Rosarys for her in a varigated green DMC size 80 thread. I have a pale pink Catholic Rosary sitting here waiting to be mailed to Mississippi...

I have been so busy I havent done much tatting lately. Cleaning chicken coops, hatching chicks... Picked up some work weeding 20 acres. I need to get busy tatting. Might have to look up some ideas to modify making rosaries as my daughter is in Marines boot camp and has requested TEN tatted rosaries!!!!!!

Working on Blue

I started worked on another needle tatted catholic rosary using DMC size 80 Blue varigated thread. I worked on making crosses on easter sunday, so now its the chain. I changed a couple of things that I thought could be improved. I really need to write down notes so I have a pattern to follow in the future.

Another view of the Needle tatted Catholic Rosary

Thought I'd post up a picture showing the entire needle tatted Rosary a little better. I started on another purple cross last night and still have a Blue size 80 thread Cross to finish off... I'm going to either give it a bookmark tail or tat a rosary chain for it. I need to pay attention next time as to how long it actually takes me to tat the chain. The crosses take 2-3 hours each. On the size 80 thread I find I cant move along as quickly as the size 10 or 20 thread because mistakes are extremely difficult to undo!

Before I can do any needle tatting today I have other stuff to finish... Chicken eggs need collected up and set. More yardwork needs complete. I'm puzzling over the best way to treat one of my best Barred japanese roosters as he seems to have hurt/injured one of his legs. I dont see any open wound or feel any break but I did move him into a cage I can bring inside and gave him some medicine.
